I want to tell you about Rome, but I feel deeply inadequate to even try. Seeing myself in Rome was like viewing the tiniest version of me in the microscopic lens of history. There was me, the tiny insignificant me, standing in the vast story of mankind. How could the tiny me ever begin to grasp its magnificent beauty. Paolo Sorrentino's film The Great Beauty captures a sublime angle through which Rome eternally stands with mankind in all its glory and destitution. Quoting one of my favourite characters Jep Gambardella from the Great Beauty seems like the best I can do, for now; to elucidate just a small fragment of the astounding beauty and melancholy of the eternal city - the great Roman empire no longer...
"This is how it always ends. With death. But first there was life. Hidden beneath the blah blah blah. It is all settled beneath the chitter chatter and the noise. Silence and sentiment. Emotion and fear. The haggard, inconstant flashes of beauty. And then the wretched squalor and miserable humanity. All buried under the cover of the embarrassment of being in the world... After all it's just a trick. Yes, it's just a trick." Jep Gambardella
My trophy purchase from Rome. Moschino iPhone case. It was so hot we were both melting! Ciao!!
Special Hotel Introduction
I loved the breakfast buffet served in the courtyard every morning, and enjoyed riding the complimentary hotel bike around Rome very much. It is centrally located and serves great cocktails.
